The RDE20 radio data expander provides the user with the option to use the integrated data services of PR20 and RF20 radio systems in a more comfortable manner, including interconnecting. It is an ideal platform for implementation of Blue Force Tracking (BFT) and Situation Awareness (SA) systems. It establishes a unified data communication environment in a heterogenic space consisting of PR20 (PR20, PR20V, VICM120 transceivers) and RF20 (RF20, RF2050 transceivers) radio system networks. It ensures IP-transparent communication for integrated services, connected external data devices (chemical detectors, laser range finders, etc.) and terminal data devices (PC or PDA). It collects data from the internal GPS signal receiver and other external sensors, connected to the RDE20 via various types of physical interfaces. The unit can be used to establish networks containing up to 30 nodes in a single IP network. One node can be configured as a gateway to the master network.
The device is available in two versions – portable and vehicle-mounted. The portable version is installed in the so-called wedge, supplied with the transceiver bag to ensure better position of integrated PR20 transceiver antennas to human body. The vehicle version contains the same block as the portable version, installed in the vehicle adaptor (VA20) ensuring appropriate fixation in compliance with mechanical requirements for wheeled and track vehicles, adapting the interfaces from the central connector to individual connectors.
RDE20 supports data modes of operation in two radio systems
• PR20 personal communication system – in personal and vehicle versions (PR20, PR20V and VICM120). You may use data transmission at 16 kbit/s simultaneously with duplex voice communication, or high-speed data mode at 160 kbit/s without the voice communication, supported by automatic rebroadcasting in both cases.
• RF20 tactical VHF communication system – in personal and vehicle versions (RF20, RF2050). Supports frequency hopping with TRANSEC/COMSEC security and bit rates according to security from 2.4 kbit/s up to 7.1 kbit/s.
