DICOM, spol. s r. o. (Ltd.) was established in 1993 as a daughter company of MESIT holding a. s.

Its management and most employees carry on the tradition of the successful development department of the former Mesit Corporation, a company that developed and produced several generations of aircraft transceivers for both civilian and military aircraft, aircraft radio-navigation units, several generations of static converters and numerous other aircraft board and engine devices. DICOM follows in the footsteps of long-term traditions in aircraft electronics production.
The fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of MESIT in Uherské Hradiště was celebrated in May 2002.

The priority task of DICOM in 1993 and 1994 was to finish the development of the RF13 - basic VHF transceiver, co-financed by the Czech Ministry of Defence. The initial federal project was won by MESIT in a tender, because it offered a better delivery schedule, technical and financial conditions than the previous manufacturer of transceivers for the army. At the same time, it was necessary (with a few exceptions) to cut down on development of the original aircraft technology by transferring it to the sister company MESIT přístroje, or to other companies of the former Aero Group. Development of the portable version of the RF13, including accessories and required army testing, was completed in an extremely short period of time. Technological and designing documentation for the production followed immediately.

In autumn 1994, the series production of the first version of the transceiver was launched in newly built workshops using surface-mount technology and complex testing. The production capacity amounted to 3000 transceivers per year with a one-shift production cycle and 70 employees. In 1994, we produced and sold the first 25 pieces and, as of today, we produce more than 8000 RF13 portable sets with accessories.
At the same time, we launched the production of mobile versions with 25 W and later 50 W power outputs, various chargers, antennas, modems, remote controls and rebroadcasting units. Later we started producing GPS/DGPS NAVSTAR receivers and antennas.

In 1994, DICOM won, together with the ROHDE&SCHWARZ Munich Company, a competition announced by the Czech Ministry of Defence for 150W HF transceivers and delivered the first R150A HF transceiver sets in the same year.
In 1998, DICOM and ROHDE&SCHWARZ successfully finished the joint development of the new generation of transceivers (R150T and R150S), ranking among the best products in its category worldwide. In the same year, we launched the production of the RF1301 hand-held VHF transceiver, developed in collaboration with the Polish company RADMOR and fully compatible with the RF13 series.

DICOM's current production assortment includes a complex tactical VHF communication system, HF communication, command and control support systems, namely data and navigations systems and a line of special and universal accessories fully compatible with the transceivers used by NATO armies.

A quality management system in the development, design, production preparation, manufacture and servicing within DICOM has been implemented since the establishment of the company. Experience from the original field of activity (aircraft technology) was formally and organizationally elaborated by the management according to ISO standards. The quality system was certified according to ISO 9001 by two independent auditors - EZÚ (Czech) and LLOYD Register (British) in 1997 and 1998. In 2001, the quality system was successfully re-audited by LLOYD Register according to ISO 9001:2000.

We successfully passed the audit according to the NATO AQAP 2110 standard (a must for all military technology suppliers) as well.

DICOM has developed and produces board intercoms for the new Czech-made L 159 ALCA fighter plane. These products prove the ability of the company to operate in its original field of business both technologically and economically. The electronic block engine limiting unit for the Walter M 601 series motor, developed by DICOM, is a product delivered to the civil aviation industry. DICOM is certified for this field of development, production and servicing by the Civil Aviation Authority in Prague according to CAA and the JAR rules.

Another important condition of prosperity is the ability of a company to continuously modernize in all areas. The company is managed using a complex information system running on a large computer network. Design and development are supported by modern software tools including our own PCB designing system. Production uses surface mount technology, mounting automats and semi-automats, reflow ovens, an ultrasonic washer and laser panel marking. Workshop quality control is equipped with single-purpose, computer-controlled devices of its own design, enabling high work productivity, quality assurance and transfer of production and technology. Products are 100% seasoned before delivery at limit temperatures and under operation. Output testing is done on automated units, making it possible for the customers to participate in product acceptance procedures.

DICOM puts great emphasis on customer services. In regular intervals, servicemen assess technical conditions at the user's place, train personnel, and provide information about new options and product versions. We use a vehicle equipped with our complete assortment of operable products for this purpose.

We send DICOM INFORM bulletins to our customers four times a year. It is also available on the Internet under http://www.dicom.cz. These web pages (in English and Czech) include a complete offer of DICOM products.

DICOM is a thriving company with positive economic balance throughout its existence. It finances its own development and investments ensuring technological levels and produces competitive products, both technically and economically. Our main customer is the Czech Army. A great deal of our production is exported, especially to south-east Asia and Africa.

Between 2003 and 2008, we have introduced a new program for modern command and control methods in NATO armies, focusing on miniaturizing the means of communication and navigation, increasing resistance against REB methods and emphasizing fast data transmission modems.

International cooperation in such projects is flourishing. This helps DICOM to ensure full compatibility with similar technology used by NATO armies and to become an important partner in international projects.

The company had 150 employees and managers as of January 1, 2010.
